Hello and welcome to Chas & Doll’s space on the web. We’re a couple of young at heart silver surfers ready to venture into the unknown with our own web site. We’re looking forward to exploring new avenues and sharing a few of our interests and memories including a few masterpieces along the way!
We realise the importance of keeping the body and mind both active as you grow older and although we may not be in the fast lane anymore we certainly are no slouches! Like many senior citizens it’s nice to reminisce about the good old days but with the computer age truly upon us, there is so much more to learn and enjoy today.
Chas says
“It’s coming up to nearly twenty nine years since I retired as an electrician and although it was nice not having to get up early in the morning, the novelty soon wore off. It was nice spending more time with my wife and partner for 65 years and I pottered around in the garden which was great in the summer but not so much fun in the winter.
Apart from keeping busy with the occasional electrical job for my family and friends, I felt the need to get involved with a new hobby. I have always enjoyed drawing and painting. However, due to a condition called Dupuytren’s contracture, I was losing the use of my right hand so couldn’t pursue my favourite pastime.
It was only until my family suggested I get a computer and introduced me to many programmes and games on it including a basic Paints programme. It opened up a whole new world to us both and now my wife has got her own laptop and iPad. This allows us to keep in touch via iMessage, Facetime, Facebook and email with our children and grandchildren.
I had taught myself to write with my left hand after treatment on my right hand hadn’t made much difference but drawing was proving more difficult. However, things were looking up for me once I discovered how to use a mouse and my new computer.
It meant so much to me to be able to draw again with Microsft paint and best of all; I could use the mouse with my right hand! I soon got the hang of all the tools in the paints programme which was great and I have now done over 300 pictures mainly copied from calendars, photos and postcards and other images I find on google.
Buying a computer is the best thing we have done especially as we live so far away from our children. Keeping in touch is easy, shopping online is great and fact-finding out any information is simple we just Google it!”
